ʻThe Strength to Succeedʼ was delivered to the Tour Organising Committee during a recent scheduled visit to view Welcome to Yorkshireʼs plans for hosting one of the biggest sporting events on earth and to take in some of the iconic locations that may feature along its the route.
The book features emotive imagery of both the county and its rich cycling pedigree including Olympic track cyclist and World Champion Ben Swift and local cycling legend Brian Robinson, 81 – the first Briton to win a stage of the Tour de France, in 1958. The book conveys both the beautiful and varied landscape of Yorkshire as well as the character and determination of Yorkshire people, both of which combine to make the region so special.
Peter Dodd, Commercial Director of Welcome to Yorkshire says: “Winning ʻLe Bidʼ is going to be a real challenge but would be an amazing boost to the Yorkshire economy and profile. This wonderful book conveys perfectly the message that not only do we have the facilities, the infrastructure and the landscape to host Le Grand Départ, but that we have the cycling heritage, the passion for sport and the support of the local people to make it a very, very special event.”
Thompson Managing Director, Nick Ramshaw added: “As a Yorkshire-based agency, whose people are passionate about the region, cycling and sport, we were all extremely proud to have contributed to ʻLe Bidʼ and to be involved with such an exciting project. Letʼs hope it does the trick.”
