LCM Prospectus

As if a friday wasn't good enough on its own, today we took delivery of the new LCM prospectus. Here are some quick shots I took as I hid them all under my desk to enjoy their exquisite printy fragrance for weeks to come!  We'll take some better shots soon but these give a taste of Richard Moran's lovely photography, Hayley's polaroids and print by Kingsbury Press.

COI Regional Agency Day

Cynthia and I spent a fruitful couple of hours at the COI (Central Office of Information) Regional Agency day in Leeds this afternoon.

It's been a few years since I 'manned a stand' (The Design Show in London was the last time I think and that's a few years ago) and the whole idea was for potential public sector clients to get a proper introduction to COI and it's excellent roster of agencies in the North East.

Armed with beautifully designed bits and bobs and a pop-up we set about spreading the Thompson word. Our Reasons to be Cheerful posters went down well as usual and the pens are always a hot ticket.

In case you're wondering, today's 'Reason' for the 29th of July is: "Not knowing, but keen to find out".

And having just received the bad news of a pitch that we'd not won, I think on the whole I'd probably rather not know.

Thanks to Rob for showing us around – after 7 months in the making it was great to see the work coming to life!

LCM Polaroids

Here is a preview of a few of the Polaroid photographs that are to be used in the new Leeds College of Music prospectus, taken in various bars, cafes and clothes stores in Leeds. The photographs were taken by our receptionist/financial assistant, Hayley Louise Goodsell.

Village Green 09

Here is a sneak peek at some of the first posters and flyers for Village Green 09, a festival of arts in Chalkwell Park, Southend on Sea. If you made it last year you'll know how fantastic it was and this year is set to do just the same. Abstract bunting and fluorescent pink is the theme for this years Village Green festival, so keep an eye out for these rather fetching posters!

Nous Vous

I was sent this lovely little mailer from the guys at Nous Vous the other day. If you're not aware of them they're a collaborative team of illustrators and designers based in our very own Leeds! Make sure you check out their site, but you're not allowed to commission them until I have! Seriously.

Crazy Bookshelf

After finding this image on Isabelle Vaverka's website it got me thinking how great it would be to have a book shelf designed just for the books you own. Totally impractical but lets face it, totally great. Check out her other work too, some very cool stuff going on considering she's just graduated from University in Holland.

Not on this evidence.

This was one of the rejected designs for the front cover of the next edition of Wallpaper. The published cover was slightly less controversial than this one.

Magazines have to work their socks off at the moment to stay alive and I think graphic design at its purest and most controversial can deliver attitude and shelf presence.

Beasties

It's not often that I get excited by furniture and the like (particularly lampshades), but when I saw this photograph I completely fell in love. This is a Beasties Lamp Shade from Habitat, an acid etched metal shade featuring animal-shaped silhouettes etched around the outside. Its aesthetically beautiful and really nice piece of design.
